Weapons

This page is for players.

Your choice of Fates grants you two weapons. Weapons are found here.

Weapon Category. Weapons fall into one of three categories: Improvised, Standard, and Expert. Generally speaking, improvised weapons aren’t designed to harm people, and standard weapons are. Expert weapons require additional training and might be especially good at fighting supernatural or unconventional enemies.

Weapon Action. Every weapon uses one of the seven Actions common to all players (predominantly: Aim, Force, Improvise, or Sneak).

Weapon Property. Many weapons also gain a trait that improves its Action roll under certain circumstances. For example, a garrote gains +1 die when its user is undetected. For these properties, the Director adjudicates when a player is undetected, and so on.

Director Refereeing. Weapons don’t contain an exhaustive list of their effects and uses. The Director can decide if a weapon can’t be used (for example, because the target would be outside of its range), if a weapon can be used in an unorthodox manner, and what Action a weapon uses if it is wielded unusually.

Settings. The following tables organize weapons into broad eras: Modern, Medieval, and Futuristic. The Director decides which list or lists are appropriate in your game.

Using Other Weapons
Players generally use one or two categories of weapons. If you attempt to use a weapon of a higher category than you can use (such as using a Standard weapon if you only use Improvised weapons), you have Disadvantage on the Weapon roll.
